- Scariest moments are in trailers*
- Pompous message about environment
- Flat acting
- Score is good, makes you think something scary is going to happen (it doesn't.)
- Does M. Night really think he made a good film? He can't possibly.

* Not actually scary in film (they are hilarious however. There is something about three people using the same gun to kill themselves. I lol'd.)

When I was in school I was punished on numerous occasions not because the punishment was appropriate to the infraction or because there was an infraction at all, but because it gave the punisher pleasure or exoneration from their own failings to do so. In the absence of appropriate oversight or rules governing the behavior of people in power, (Absolute power, in its way), people do not become corrupted but they do what they wish to do to achieve whatever goals or desires they have.

This fact has colored most of my thinking on justice, governance, and authority.

It always starts with a list, a report, maybe just a vague pile of papers and sticky notes, mountainous and disheveled, but constructed into its own unique sort of logical form. It's made to be gone through, to sort this task and that, to ask for your allegiance to next, faintly suspending your identity. Pretty soon you have a bunch of check marks or crosses to show for your effort and in some way it almost feels like that's supposed to be enough. The grand objective rarely seems to be the goal, it's just there to give a structure and form to the order of business.
